Checklist for Private Villa Rentals

Checklist for Private Villa Rentals

Koh Larn

Traveling to Bali is an exciting adventure that brings into consideration the encounter of two different cultures and behaviors: eastern and western, but also a series of considerations to keep in mind. Bali Holiday Rental services have the bridge you need to cross to Indonesian popular destinations, but there are several things that you must be aware of.

Bali Private Villas may be luxurious and elegant or within your budget with standard facilities. Make sure to find the right Bali Holiday Rental, by doing a research will in advance to your trip. There are Bali Private Villas with different ranges of price and a large array of amenities, such as pools, restrooms, change rooms, golf courses, tennis courts, etc.

After choosing a Bali Villa Rental, the next step is to learn about local culture in Indonesia, this is a rewarding experience because you will not be embarrassed by your own customs and manners, sometimes totally strange to oriental people. As an example, nudism is illegal in Indonesia, besides being considered rude and offensive, so do expect topless or nude sunbathing, even in Bali Private Villas.

In addition, learn about Balinese traditions, how to shop for your groceries and move around the island. Ask your Bali Holiday Rental for a list of supermarkets, dinning facilities or any amenities you may need, also ask if the price you pay includes any additional services.

Despite the warm climate, dressing conservatively is the most appropriate, since most locals wear long clothing as opposed to what westerners consider suitable beachwear. Like in the Japanese custom, you must remove your footwear and leave it outside of temples, or when visiting someone else's home.

As it is important, have a backup plan wherever you are going on vacation, it is also necessary to select more than one Bali Holiday Rental to compare the services they offer. Some of them can tailor your needs with Bali Private Villas arranging any transfer, tour or cruise required, and even helps you plan your wedding or special event.

While any Bali Villa Rental may be set up in properties settled in lush tropical gardens, others may have seashore settings, offering additional services, including private pools, house dining, and staff assistance during your stay. Planning your travel carefully will help you make a wise decision.

Bali Private Villas are available for short and long-term rental, which are generally a better alternative to other accommodations, because of the major number of facilities, amenities and more space. Once you have reviewed your checklist, pack your stuff and get ready to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience.

Intertrigo - Yeast Infection in Skin Folds

Intertrigo - Yeast Infection in Skin Folds

Koh Larn

Intertrigo is caused by a yeast known as Candida albicans. This fungal infection occurs in folds of the skin like the armpits, groins, fat rolls, or undersides of breasts. These areas are moist and warm; a perfect growing environment.

Other factors that contribute to intertrigo are as follows:

o Poor hygiene
o Hot and humid weather
o Wearing tight clothes
o Certain skin disorders like psoriasis
o Using topical steroids

As mentioned earlier, intertrigo appears in areas where skin touches skin and is characterized by red, shining and raw-looking rash, which has scaly edges. The rash does not remain limited to the folds of the skin and extends just outside the fold. A person suffering from intertrigo will have small areas of rash close to the main rash.

Doctors usually diagnose this yeast infection based on its appearance. However, if there is a doubt, a KOH test is done to confirm the presence of yeast and a bacterial culture to confirm secondary bacterial infection.

Treatment for intertrigo involves keeping the folds of the skin dry and clean and applying anti-fungal creams like clotrimazole and miconazole. However, you can also take preventive measures to ensure that you do not get intertrigo. Some of the preventive measures include:

o Reducing skin to skin contact through weight reduction
o Keeping folds of the skin dry
o Applying anti-fungal powder daily
o Wearing loose and soft underclothing so that chafing of skin does not occur. In addition, wearing clothes that absorbs perspiration also help.
o Washing chafed skin daily with antibacterial soap and water and then drying the area thoroughly

Saponification - How to Make Soap

Saponification - How to Make Soap

Koh Larn

What is saponification? It is a scientific term, often, used when making homemade soap. Saponification is a chemical reaction that occurs between oil and lye. What is it important? Each soap making oil has certain saponification values and properties which contribute to more than making soap. These oils help to form many homemade skin care products such as: soaps, lotions, creams, foot scrubs, shampoos, face cream, lip balms, and more! Understanding saponification, its values and how ingredients work together will help you choose the right ingredients for your homemade skin care products. What should you consider?

Soap making oils contain different acidic ingredients: lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic, linoleic, oleic and ricinoleic. Each of these ingredients are contained in soap making oils at different percentages. When you consider the percentage values, of each ingredient, it will help you make the right soap making choice for your homemade skin care products. For example, lauric, myristic, palmitic and stearic acids help to provide a hard bar of soap. Most people would rather have a hard bar of soap instead of something soft and mushy. If you want soap that provides a nice fluffy lather then you may consider using a soap making oil containing lauric, myristic, or ricinoleic acids. If you would rather have soap that did not lather, fully, but had a stable, subdued, lather then palmitic, stearic or ricinoleic acids would be a good choice. If you are making soap, lotions or other homemade skin care products with added conditioning properties then linoleic and oleic acids would be beneficial.

Saponification values are given for homemade bar soap with the abbreviations NoAH. They are, also, given for homemade liquid soap with the abbreviations KOH. The science definitions for NoAH is sodium hydroxide and for KOH, it is potassium hydroxide. NoAH and KOH saponification values occur for many different soap making oils. It is important to consider each value before making homemade soap or any homemade skin care product!

Saponification is the key to understanding the scientific formation of soap. Handmade soaps are formulated using a combination of emollient oils and butters, such as: olive, avocado, cocoa or shea butter. The lathering oils may be added such as: coconut or palm kernel oils. All of these oils are mixed together with liquid saturated lye. How will you know when the saponification process is complete? You will know because there will be no more lye left in the mixture. In reality, each type of soap making oil requires a different amount of lye to produce the complete reaction. Today's savonnier has tools to calculate exact ratios of specific oils to lye.

When making homemade soap or any homemade skin care products you should heed all warnings! Potent chemicals such as essential oils and lye should always be respected. Make sure you take the proper safety precautions before using these chemicals. Large amounts of essential oils should never be used externally or internally. They should never be used straight, but should be diluted in a carrier oil, soap, lotion or other buffering agent. Never use essential oils without knowing what their bioactive compounds are known to do. When handling lye make sure you are wearing proper safety coverings. Lye can cause extremely painful burns if it contacts skin. If you happen to spill lye, clean the entire area with white vinegar to neutralize its effects.

It is important to know, you should not substitute oils in soap making recipes. Why? Each soap making oil has a specific saponification value, which specifies the number of lye molecules needed to turn a molecule of oil into soap. If there is extra lye left in the soap, it will be too harsh and will damage your skin. This is why understanding the meaning of saponification and how it works is so very important when making homemade soap or any homemade skin care products!

If you are a beginner or veteran soap maker you can learn how to make soap, at home, with a master soap maker! You can waste a lot of time, money and energy trying to figure out the soap making process on your own. A master soap maker can help you get started or refresh your memory! Making homemade skin care products is a serious matter, so learn how to make soap from someone with years of experience and plenty of patience! A master soap maker can help save you time, money and lots of heartaches. You can achieve soap making success with the proper guidance!

Who Else Wants the Secrets to Achieving Successful Content Marketing?

Who Else Wants the Secrets to Achieving Successful Content Marketing?

Koh Larn

If you are an internet marketer then you definitely want to succeed with content marketing. This you will find is one of the main keys to your success on the internet and we have a couple tips to help you in making this dream come true.

1. The Skills You Will Need

To succeed in this area you must have the related skills. These are research and writing skills as well as search engine optimized skills. These will help you in producing content that will be valuable to the readers as they will be interesting and will benefit you in terms of search engine rankings.

2. Make Yourself the Expert

You must have an in-depth knowledge of your niche area as this is what will set you apart from your competition. It is in sharing this information that you will be able to win the trust of your prospective clients. Beef up your knowledge by reading all the material you can get your hands on.

3. Be Familiar with Your Target Audience

If you do not know who you are serving you definitely won't be able to do it well. You need to know who are the members of your target market as well as what they want.

This translates to defining your target market. You will need to know much more than what is on the surface such as their age group and gender as well as the information they are looking for. You will want to know how educated they are, what their fears are and why they need this information.

4. You Must Possess Determination and Patience

You won't begin to see the results of your content marketing efforts right away so in that stead you need to be patient. It is not a "set it and forget it" type of thing so you will need to be determined to continue your content marketing efforts.

5. You Must Not Be Greedy

You may think that offering good quality information to readers for free that they may not want to purchase from you but this is far from the truth. People who see that you are willing to give good quality information up front believe that this reflects the fact that what you are selling is indeed the best.

6. You Must Remain Original

If you just go out copying and rewriting content that is already online then you won't be able to show your prospects why you are the best. Come with something different, something that will capture and will have people thinking it is well worth their money.

Argentina Roadtrip: Ruta 40

Argentina Roadtrip: Ruta 40

Koh Larn

The Ruta 40 is one of the wildest and least travelled roads in South America. It spreads the entire length of Argentina from La Quiaca on the border with Bolivia in the north, all the way down to El Chaltén and Río Gallegos in the South. Nearly the entire length of Ruta 40 passes through breathtakingly beautiful countryside. Known simply as "la cuarenta" the road will allow you to experience the sheer emptiness of Patagonia. You may spot condors coasting high above the Andes, see a Patagonian fox, and not much else aside from the stunning scenery. During the 14 hours it takes to go from Los Antiguos to El Chaltén, you probably won't see more than a dozen cars. Che Guevara travelled along much of Ruta 40 during his famous motorcycle jaunts, and his exposure to poverty and adversity helped him develop his revolutionary spirit. Discover yourself as you roadtrip along la cuarenta playing Argentine tunes on the radio.

Along the way you can hide out at a number of estancias. Many estancias in this area welcome guests and you can learn the warm owners' hardy way of life. Go horseback riding, hiking, or walking through the tall poplar trees. From Estancia La Oriental, venture into Perito Moreno National Park (not to be confused with Glaciar Perito Moreno) and explore the park's stunning and stark landscapes. Get out of the car and stretch your legs on a hike to Lago Belgrano, Lago Burmeister, or Cerro Leon.

To the north of Perito Moreno, the Ruta 40 has some unusual attractions. Cueva de las Manos, near the small town of Perito Moreno, is a striking canyon. Home to the Río Pininturas, the caves contain thousands of human hand prints, made over eight thousand years ago. It is mind blowing to see ancient remnants after traveling for 12 hours without seeing a soul. Slightly further north, near Sarmiento, there's a petrified forest with enormous trunks of monkey puzzle trees that turned to stone 140 million years ago.

When you finally arrive at Mount Fitz Roy, after driving for days on relentless flat lands, you will have the chance to explore one of the grandest sights in the whole country. The great turrets of granite rise up from the flat steppe while condors and clouds breeze over top. Take a short hike to the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado viewpoint or spend days trekking up to Río Blanco and Piedra del Fraile. This will be the ideal end to an once-in-a-lifetime roadtrip.

Phonemic Awareness Activities for Children

Phonemic Awareness Activities for Children

Koh Larn

If you found this article then the chances are good that you already know what phonemic awareness activities are. You might not realize just how important they can be though. Rhyming word activities are one of the most common activities but there are obviously quite a few different ones. Syllable segmentation, sound substitution, sound isolation, and phonemic segmentation are all equally important.

Let's talk about sound substitution today because I find this extremely important. For this, you'll want to ask the children riddles that require them to manipulate sounds in their heads - endings are the easiest for the children. An example is like this:

"What is the ending sound of the word jug?"

The most difficult ones are where you ask for a consonant blend or digraph at the beginning, here's an example of that:

"What rhymes with leg and starts with a /p/?"

A great song that you can use for teaching sound substitution is "I've Been Working on the Railroad" by Yopp (1992). Make sure all of your children or students know the song and then you'll want to substitute a consonant sound for the beginning of each word of the song - for example:

"Fee-Fi-Fiddle-ee-I-Oh" "Bee-Bi-Biddle-ee-I-Oh" "Dee-Di-Diddle-ee-I-Oh" "Hee-Hi-Hiddle-ee-I-Oh"

Old Mac Donald Had a Farm is another great song for this because you can change out words depending on the animal being used - this song is also by Yopp (1992). Here's an example of that:

For a cow, sing, "kee-high,kee-kigh,koh!" For a sheep, you can sing, "shee-shigh,shee-shigh, shoh!"

That pretty much covers sound substitution. You should no enough about that phonemic awareness activity to get started, but you'll still want to learn about the other forms of it.

Dog Clicker Training vs Compulsion Based Dog Training, Which is Better?

Dog Clicker Training vs Compulsion Based Dog Training, Which is Better?

Koh Larn

Compulsion based dog training revolves mainly around using corrections to get a dog to comply. It is very common to hear compulsion based trainers telling their students that their dogs must learn that obedience is not an option i.e. their dogs must learn to obey at all times. To achieve this, dogs are consistently corrected for each wrong behaviour till they eventually comply. The use of choke chains, pinch collars etc are common with such methods of dog training. Others may even resort to using the electronic collar. Food or treats on the other hand are less often used because some compulsion based trainers believe that dogs trained with food or treats tend to be unreliable i.e. they obey only if you have food or treats on hand. Take away the food or treat and everything they learn starts to fall apart.

Do Food or Treats Have a Place in Dog Training?

In our opinion, absolutely yes! But they must be administered in the right way. If you show a dog a treat, ask it to come to you and then reward it with the treat, you have just effectively made the treat a bribe. Without the treat, there is every chance your dog will ignore you and go about doing whatever it wishes especially if there are distractions around.

Rewards based trainers are therefore very careful in using food and treats as rewards for right behaviours rather than as bribes. As a rule (other then when luring), food is never presented as a means to get the dog's attention before requesting a behaviour. Instead food is often out of sight initially and presented only after the requested behaviour is performed, as a reward. This way, the dog is not reliant on the bribe to perform. Instead over time, it learns that even if food is out of sight, it just might be rewarded, if it performs as asked consistently.

Can Rewards Based Training Produce Reliable Results?

Definitely. In fact, many of today's top obedience dogs around the world are clicker trained. And clicker training in its purest form uses 100% rewards based methods. The use of force or corrections has no place in clicker training. That these top obedience dogs can perform reliably in obedience rings all around the world is proof that clicker training works and that the use of force in dog training is totally not necessary.

Is Clicker Training Superior to Compulsion based Training?

It is our opinion that in the hands of the right trainer, both methods are effective and can produce excellent obedience dogs. However when it comes to administering corrections, some trainers can go overboard, using increasingly higher levels of corrections to train their dogs. For example, they may progress from a buckle collar to a choke chain, pinch collar and eventually even an electronic collar. Some may even resort to using throw chains to speed up their dog's performance. While such methods do work, they tend to produce dogs that perform not because they love to but rather because it is compulsory. Reliable as they are, such dogs tend to look rather mechanical in the ring. Problems can also arise if compulsion trained dogs are entered into competitions too early. In the ring, handlers are not permitted to correct their dogs. If these dogs are not yet ready for the ring, they will invariably make mistakes in the ring and realise that in the ring, their mistake are not corrected. The end result - a ringwise dog i.e. a dog that performs wonderfully well outside the ring but once in the ring, everything falls apart.

Given the above, our preferred choice is clicker training. Our dog, Rufus CDX, the 2009 Singapore Kennel Club Reserve Obedience Dog of the Year is clicker trained. Clicker training in our opinion produces dogs that perform because they choose to and not because they have to. As a result, they are very enthusiastic and it will show in their performance in the ring. Clicker training is also more humane and most importantly, your dog will love it.

How To Flirt In Spanish

How To Flirt In Spanish

Koh Larn

What are the benefits of being able to flirt in Spanish?

Well, imagine this.

You have been in the club for hours and, so far, no one has caught your eye. You are just about to give up and go home when, suddenly, a hot Latina or Latino walks through the door.

What do you do?

While eye contact and body language may get the job done let's add a twist: Some flirty Spanish phrases.

Breaking the Ice

Flirting is all about breaking the ice. The tone of the conversation starts with the first words you say. Do something to make a unique first impression.

Starting a conversation with a flirty Spanish phrase is a unique way to break the ice. If the person you are talking to speaks Spanish, you will immediately separate yourself from all the others.

Even if the person you want to flirt with doesn't know Spanish, you will still have their attention. How often do people come up to them speaking a foreign language? They will probably ask what the phrase means, which will allow you to start a conversation either way.

Some Flirty Spanish Phrases

So, now that you know that adding some Spanish phrases to your list of flirting techniques is worthwhile, you just need to know what to say.

Here are a few flirty phrases that will work wonders.

I noticed you and wanted to find out what you were like. Te noté y quería averiguar cómo eres. teh noh-tEH ee keh-rEE-ah ah-vehr-ee-gwahr kOH-moh eh-rehrs.

You are very pretty. Eres muy linda. eh-rehs mwee leen-dah.

You are very handsome. Eres muy guapo. eh-rehs mwee gwah-poh.

You have the prettiest eyes in the world. Tienes los ojos más bonitos del mundo. tee-eh-nehs lohs oh-hohs mAHs boh-nee-tohs dehl moon-doh.

You have a lovely smile. Tienes una sonrisa hermosa. tee-eh-nehs oo-nah sohn-ree-sah ehr-moh-sah.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Once you have learned a few flirty Spanish phrases, you want to master them. Practice them until they start to become warm and natural.

First, find out the proper way to say the words, either by asking someone who knows the language to teach you, or by using a dictionary that spells out each word phonetically.

Then, practice each phrase as often as you can, until they roll off of your tongue almost as easily as saying the same things in English would.

Having the ability to flirt a little in Spanish provides you with unique opportunities when meeting people you are attracted to.

Teaching Your Toddler To Feed Himself

Teaching Your Toddler To Feed Himself

Koh Larn

In the article on weaning your baby I suggested that from 10 months onwards, you could start offering other types of food to your baby but they must be cut up finely so that baby will not choke. By the time your baby is 1 year old he should be taking a variety of food so it would be easy to progress to eating adult food. By now he should have enough teeth to chew his food and if you have been sitting him at the dinner table during meal times he should have learnt from watching you, how to chew his food.

A few pointers to remember when feeding your toddler

o Never leave your toddler alone to feed himself. This is because most children will put all the food they see into their mouth which could cause choking or vomiting.

o Always check that your child has swallowed the food before offering the next mouthful. You can do this by asking your child to open his mouth. This applies even when he is able to feed himself.

o Finger food should be soft and easy to chew or dissolve in the mouth. Do not give big chunks or sticks of food for them to bite off until they are 2 years old. If they accidentally bite off a biggish piece it could cause choking or the food could slip into the airways and get lodged in the lungs which may require surgery to remove it. Believe me; I have seen many cases where children lose a bit of their lungs because of care takers' negligence.

o Never give infants or young children iced or refrigerated foods or liquids, because the coldness can damage the stomach and intestines, inhibiting the capacity to digest, assimilate, and eliminate. Liquids and soft cooked foods served warm or at room temperature are the most desirable and beneficial, especially when children are sick.

o Never give children cold drinks with their meals because the stomach should be warm to best digest the food and cold drinks will dampen the 'fire' needed to break down food.

o Do not give them fizzy drinks as this causes too much gas in the stomach. Did you know that you can use coke to remove stubborn stains in your toilet bowl? Imagine what it will do to your baby's stomach if you let them drink coke!

o Never feed your child in front of the television. Children eat better when they have company so let your child eat with you.

o Never make horrible faces if you do not like the food that you see. Everything should be yummy.

All children go through phases of different eating styles.

The ferocious eating phase

This is the best phase when the child just loves eating everything that he sees. He would practically wolf everything down quick as a flash.

The keep the food in the mouth phase

This is when the child takes food into his mouth and just leaves it there without chewing or swallowing it. When he is satisfied that it has been there long enough, he will then chew and swallow it. It can take up to 1 hour to finish the meal which can be taxing if you are the impatient type of person. The possible reasons could be the child is not hungry enough or he is bored with the food, had too many snacks in between meals or he is testing your ingenuity on how to get him to eat.

The choosy phase

This is when the child decides he does not want to eat certain food. It is quite normal if your child suddenly refuses to eat a certain food that he used to enjoy, so just give him alternatives. Once the child is old enough I always ask them what they want to eat especially for breakfast. The other thing that I do is play on their vanity if I think that they should eat the food offered. I always tell them what food group the food is; for example vegetables contain Vitamin C and eating this will make their skin beautiful, eating proteins will give them strong muscles (show your strong biceps), eating vitamin A will make their eyesight strong etc. If they question me on why my skin is not smooth and beautiful, I always tell them it is because I was naughty and did not eat vegetables when I was young. They always believe me and finish everything on the plate.

The 'I don't want to eat' phase

This is very common if they have just recovered from an illness and do not have any appetite. Let your child choose what he likes but make sure that the food is nutritious and not junk food. Make sure you do not have lots of junk food in the house and they will be able to make do with what you have. It could be a piece of cheese or a couple of biscuits instead of rice.

Now let us look at how to start teaching your child to feed himself.

It is best to first teach your toddler to eat using his fingers because he has been practicing putting things into his mouth since he was 2 - 3 months old. Use foods that are dry and easy to pick up, like bread and biscuits. Show your child how to pick up food using his thumb and first finger and let him practice as often as possible.

The next stage is to teach him how to use a fork. I like to start with a plastic fork as it is lighter and easier to handle. Now you can use cut up fruits and vegetables as these are easier to prod with the fork.

Once he has mastered using the fork it is time to learn how to use a spoon. It is better to start with a teaspoon which is lighter. Initially, he will not be able to balance the food on the spoon and will tip the food off the spoon but be patient. Once he has mastered the skill of feeding himself he will not want you to feed him anymore so let him be independent.

Cooking tips

o Remove your child's portion before you add salt or reduce the amount of salt for the whole family

o Do not use monosodium glutamate in the food

o Add a little extra water when cooking rice so that it is slightly softer

o Use smaller fish because it has less methyl-mercury

From bottle to cup

Regardless of what other people say, I strongly believe that children should drink water starting from infancy. In our country, children tend to lose fluids through invisible loss and the drying effects of air-conditioners. If they have a fever or they are 'heaty' they will need slightly more to keep the internal system cool. If the children start drinking water early, once they grow older, they will not have problems drinking water. In fact you cannot find sweet fizzy drinks in my house. If the weather is very hot everybody has to drink extra water. The other drink which I encourage is barley with winter melon strips instead of sugar.

All the babies below 6 months must drink at least 60 mls of water per day. Normally I give a little after their milk feed to keep the mouth clean and the balance when they wake up from their sleep when the mouth may be a bit dry.

After 6 months they need to drink about 150 - 200 mls per day. If they refuse to drink from the bottle, I will spoon feed them

From 12 months onwards I like to give them water from a straw cup as there is no spillage.

From 18 months they learn to drink directly from the cup. I start by giving them an empty cup to practice putting to the mouth and once they have mastered the technique, I put a little water into the cup and slowly increase the amount.

I like the western concept of allowing children to feed themselves from an early age. Most Chinese families do not allow the children to feed themselves until they are 4 - 5 years old because it is messy. What is a little mess to clean up compared to the joy of achievement on your child's face when he actually manages to eat by himself. When Marie started primary school I happened to pop into the school canteen during recess to pay the canteen fees and I was absolutely horrified to see several grandmas and maids sitting there feeding the 7 year old children because they did not know how to feed themselves.

I hope that you are like me in wanting your child to learn how to be self reliant from an early age.
